These are the words that sparked my journey into the world of fused glass and how I became hooked with a passion and renewed curiosity that I had not experienced since being a small child.
Fused glass jewelry with amazing iridescent colors changing in the light was the bait that caught my attention. From my first class, I was pulled into a world of art, balanced with science, chemistry, heating schedules, record keeping, patience, and health and safety issues.
Who would guess that the pretty little jewelry would entail so much. Surely not me. That is, until I realized how those skills and techniques would advance my craft. By that time, I was totally hooked and there was no turning back.
It is truly an art form for someone like me. You balance technical with creative all in one craft. I think that is why I have discovered so many people with scientific or technical backgrounds who truly excel in the glass arts. You get to be a mad scientist and artist all in one craft. What could be better?
Every time I put something in the kiln, it feels like the night before Christmas and I am transported back to the time when as a little girl I waited for Santa's morning surprise. I wait with anticipation for the moment when I can peak inside with grand expectations of the perfect creation or I meet my grand illusion head on with a piece of glass that is guaranteed to assist with my future growth in understanding what went wrong.
